Guardian Angel School was officially inaugurated on the 14th April 1964, by the then Minister of Education, Dr A. Paris in the presence of the first headmistress of the school, Ms Carmen Farrugia. Students attending the school had moderate to severe learning difficulties. All classes had the support of a professional class teacher and a nursery assistant.
During the 1990’s the school was upgraded with new projects including the setting up of a new playground, a multi-sensory room and the installation of computers. The school was also allocated the service of a nursing officer.
By the late 1990’s the administration of the school was seriously involved in an active Inclusion strategy. Twinning with classes from mainstream primary and secondary schools was encouraged. Interaction with the community was emphasised and programmes were adopted to promote independent living skills of students.
Around 2009, discussions about the reform in the special education sector had started. The school now called Guardian Angel Secondary Education Resource Centre was to cater for students aged eleven to sixteen years.
In the scholastic year 2010-2011 the school started out as a Secondary Resource Centre and formed part of San Ġorġ Preca College. Students were placed in nine classes, each having a class teacher and separate teachers for each subject taught on the curriculum.
